We are in the era of cloud broadcasting. Applications like Youtube, Tulitab, Netflix, Hotstar, and many other video sharing and OTT services have acquired the seventy percent of the satellite TV users. I too have discontinued the satellite TV at home and have started watching the contents on Tulitab and Youtube.
When satellite TV first hit the market within the early 1990s, home dishes were expensive metal units that took up an enormous chunk of yard space. In these early years, only the foremost die-hard TV fans would undergo all the effort and expense of fixing their own dish. Satellite TV was tons harder to urge than broadcast and cable TV.
Today, you see compact satellite dishes perched on rooftops all over the world. Drive through rural areas beyond the reach of the cable companies, and you’ll find dishes on almost every house. The major satellite television companies are luring in additional consumers a day with movies, sporting events, and news from round the world and therefore the promise of movie-quality picture and sound.
Why users are switching to cloud broadcasting
The user-friendly interface, artificial intelligence, a wide range of contents and the freedom to choose what the user wants to watch has encouraged the users to move to cloud broadcasting.
The wastage of advertising on Satellite TV
We were working on an e-commerce pilot project in the year 2018. At that time it came in our mind to promote our product using satellite TV.
But the moment we enquired, we were shocked. Our calculations and the promotional budget collapsed. There were several loopholes where advertisers are still wasting their money. Some of the are below.
- Advertising without targetting your audience, locations, etc. If are willing to advertise on Satellite TV, be ready to invest a huge amount as you will not be able to select the location for advertising your product/service. The TV Channels are going to charge you for the complete. the location they telecast. You will also not be able to select your audience type.
- Be ready to accept what the TV channels are going to say, you are not going to get any analytics of your campaign.
- You are also going to be charged for the TVs that are switched off.
- A very important thing that I noticed was a person "ABC" is the subscriber of many TV channels at a time and all are claiming him as a preferred viewer. But remember a person can watch a single TV channel at a time. If you are running a TV commercial on Channel "A" and at the same time the user is watching channel "B" he can never be your audience.
- And many more.
The above wastage in satellite broadcasting is due to limitations in the satellite broadcasting system. Using the internet/cloud technology these issues can be solved.
